Dr. Matthew Sitkowski, Executive Weather Producer -The Weather Channel will be a featured keynote speaker at the 2019 National Disaster Resilience Conference (NDRC19) set for November 19-22 at the Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach, FL. The NDRC offers a premier opportunity to join the nation's foremost voices in the disaster safety and resilience movement to learn, network, and collaborate.
Dr. Sitkowski's presentation will highlight the use of mixed reality during Hurricane Florenceice storms and the devastating wildfires in 2018. The Weather Channel has employed the use of this immersive technology to help viewers understand the fundamental basics and dangers of these hazards.
As Executive Weather Producer, Dr. Sitkowski works with senior management, meteorologist on-camera talent, and graphic artists to determine and coordinate the production of daily weather stories. In addition, Dr. Sitkowski is a producer for WX Geeks, a national platform to discuss weather and climate policy, communicate successes and failure, and other topical issues of interest to weather enterprise.
Dr. Sitkowski received his BS in Meteorology at Florida State University, MS in Meteorology at University of Hawaii-Manoa, and a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While earning his BS and MS, he worked at the National Hurricane Center in Miami, FL and the Honolulu Forecast Office/Central Pacific Hurricane Center in Honolulu, HI. In August 2011, he flew aboard a Hurricane Hunter aircraft into the eye of Hurricane Irene.
